1. Photoelectric Smoke Alarms
Photoelectric smoke alarms are generally more responsive to fires that begin with a long period of smoldering also known as “smoldering fires”.
Photoelectric-type alarms aim a light source into a sensing chamber at an angle away from the sensor. Smoke enters the chamber, reflecting light onto the light sensor; triggering the alarm.
The photoelectric smoke detector can detect fire in an earlier stage than a heat detector. Generally, this detector is installed in spaces such as basements, ordinary floors, corridors, staircases and elevator shafts.
2. Ionization Smoke Alarms
Ionization smoke alarms are generally more responsive to flaming fires. E.g. Grease fire in the kitchen, paper burning in a wastebasket. Ionization-type smoke alarms have a small amount of radioactive material between two electrically charged plates, which ionizes the air and causes current to flow between the plates. When smoke enters the chamber, it disrupts the flow of ions, thus reducing the flow of current and activating the alarm.
a) Flame Detector
We supply and install flame detectors device that are designed to detect and respond to the presence of a flame or fire. Our flame detector device detects the flame by optical sensing, ionization, or by heat detection means, and often forms part of a system of active fire protection used in fire alarm systems and in applications where the presence of a flame, such as a pilot light is necessary for operational safety.
Our Infrared (IR) flame detectors work within the infrared spectral band. Hot gases emit specific spectral patterns in the infrared region, which can be sensed using a specialized thermal imaging camera (TIC) for fire fighting, a type of thermography camera. False alarms can be caused by other hot surfaces and background thermal radiation in the area, as well as blinding from water and solar energy. A typical frequency in which a single frequency IR flame detector is sensitive lies within the 4.4 micrometer range. Typical response time is 3–5 seconds. b) Heat Detectors
A heat detector is a fire alarm device designed to respond when the confected thermal energy of a fire increases the temperature of a heat sensitive element. The thermal mass and conductivity of the element regulate the rate flow of heat into the element.
How it works; heat detectors respond to changes in ambient temperature, rather than smoke. They can be triggered by two different events: if the ambient temperature rises above a predetermined threshold or if there is an unusual “rate of rise” (typically when the temperature rise exceeds 6.7° to 8.3°C per minute).
In areas, such as kitchens, where a degree of smoke and steam are normal and safe, a heat detector the perfect device for protecting you from unsafe rises in temperature. Like smoke detectors, they can give you valuable time to escape.
